About Malaysian Cultural Customs

Malaysia is a multi-cultural society. The main ethnic groups are the native Malays as well as large populations of Chinese, and Indians. When visiting the country it is clear that the ethnicities retain their religions, customs and way of life. The most important festivals of each group are public holidays.Malays, Chinese, Indians and many other ethnic groups have lived together in Malaysia for generations. All
these cultures have influenced each other, creating a truly Malaysian culture. The largest ethnic groups in
Malaysia are the Malays, Chinese and Indians. Malaysia has a rich cultural life, much of which revolves around
the traditional customs and practices of its diverse population, such as greetings, naming system and family

Customs In Malaysia

Malaysia is a multiracial country with three main ethnic groups which are Malay, Chinese and Indian. Malaysias population comprises twenty-three million people, and throughout its history the territory has been sparsely populated. The government aims for increasing the national population to thirty million by the year 2020. Eighty percent of the population lives on the peninsula. The most important Malaysian demographic statistics are of ethnicity: 60 percent are classified as Malay, 25 percent as of Chinese descent, 10 percent of Indian descent, and 5 percent as others. Despite the difference in race, Malaysia stays as a united nation striving and relentlessly developing under the national flag namely Jalur Gemilang. Bahasa Malaysia is the national language of Malaysia and Islam is its national religion. Despite that, Malaysians are free to practice their own religion and languages. Every race has its own uniqueness and beauty, dropped down from ancestors of their true lands, which are still being practiced till today. It is important that we learn more about these traditions as we will be more appreciative towards them. It is our responsibility to keep the tradition alive and going. This will be one of the many ways we can make this possible. For example, greetings in a social context will depend upon the ethnicity of the person you are meeting. The objective of this project is to expose to the students regarding the customs of the different races living here in Malaysia. It is also learn more on the naming system of every race and the significance of names given. Other than that, it is also for us to learn more about the different types of greetings used by every race GROUP 4 (14B) CUSTOMS IN MALAYSIA
